Starting the Summer Projects

So I'm officially on summer vacation now. This means I should have little excuse not to get some of my projects done. The past couple of days I rearranged my closet and started gathering materials to use in the "Thing-a-Week" self challenge.
Above: A decent representation of the materials I gathered. Not pictured are the large amounts of wood, plastic sacks, and an old bicycle frame. Expect more to show up that isn't pictured or listed.

Just a reminder of the rules of my challenge:
  1. I must use materials from around the house.
  2. I can not buy any supplies to assist in creating a piece.
  3. I must create a unique piece each week until summer ends or I run out of supplies.
I'll let you know what my first creation out of this mess is as soon as I think of what to make. That's that then. I'm off to do stuff.

News Time - Man it's Been a While

Man, it's been a while since I've updated. Not that it matters for the 0 people that follow this blog.

Anywho, I've got a bit of an update. In a few weeks I'll have more free time, so rather than sitting around and rotting all summer I'll be doing an ongoing art project. My home is full of random crap. It's those little things you think you're going to want/need for something at some point in the future but when you look back, you realize you never needed it. Rather than letting it continue to stagnate and grow in the nooks and crannies of my home, I'll attack it by turning it all into arts and crafts.

Each week, starting in May, I'll take a selection of the materials I would otherwise just throw out and make some manner of art out of them. I have no plans for what to make; it'll be a new idea thought up at the beginning of each week. When the week ends, I'll share what I came up with. The only thing is that I'll still have to do something with the art I made, as this is also an excuse to deep clean my home.

So, in news not so related to arts and crafts....
Project Hyrule isn't looking like it'll happen. Everytime I get the urge to work on it, the server is out dated or I don't get a long enough period to really go at it. I still want to make it, but I doubt it'll get finished.
I'll be making more machinima videos now that I've found a rhythm for going through those motions, hopefully starting with a compilation video for the Interroweek celebrations from last month.

Projects completed:

  • Let's Play L4D2 - Kokiri Forest
Projects in Queue:
  • Psychonauts Bag
  • Interroweek Compilation
  • Thing a Week summer clean up
Cancelled/Hiatus Projects:
  • Project Hyrule - Hiatus

Project Hyrule Update 1

So, my current project is this complete recreation of Hyrule, from Ocarina of Time, in Minecraft. I've already had a great start, but I've hit a snag of not wanting to carve out every single hill in Hyrule Field. If I don't do that, I won't have the proper elevations to start work on other areas, like Gerudo Valley and Lake Hylia.
Here's a video showing the last bit of progress I recorded.

Welcome to my Blog

Hey y'all. Leaf Growth/SquareMEal here. I'm hoping to start putting my ideas in the forms of blogs and update the blog at least semi regularly with my progress. If you like what I'm doing and notice I'm slacking on the project, feel free to push me back into it, as I tend to bite off more than I can chew and leave projects unfinished. I still have projects I started almost four years ago that I have laying around.

Here's a note to self of the projects that would probably be worth completing:
Zelda Fortress 2 (this actually has it's own blog, but until I do something more with it, I won't link you all to it, sorry)
Project Hyrule (Basically a 1:1 scale replica of Hyrule built in Minecraft. My next post will detail more about it)
Psychonauts Bag (I'm cross-stitching the merit badges from the game onto a book bag. I'm halfway done, but this is the one that's sat the longest)
Portal 2 Sound Pack (I wanted to make custom dialog for all the speaking characters in Portal 2, but Valve decided to make customizing the game hard, which is unusual, so I have no idea how to implement the sound files I've worked on)

More to come, I hope.
